Valdidentro hosts the presentation of the new book by Marco Rodigari, "The Soldier’s Dreams", a work that guides the reader into the most authentic dimension of the Great War in Alta Valtellina.
Not a story of battles, but of everyday life. Of men living in extreme conditions, suspended between snow, silence, and waiting. What did they eat up there? How did they keep warm? Where did they sleep? And above all, what did it mean to survive every day at those altitudes?
The book is the result of years of research based on military diaries, private testimonies and archival documents. Through these sources, a concrete and realistic picture takes shape: life at high altitude and behind the front lines, the difficulties of transport and communication, and the ingenuity required to ensure supplies, firewood, shelter, and connections.
Alongside the Italian soldiers, stories of the adversaries and Russian prisoners who operated in these mountains also emerge, offering a broad and deeply human perspective on a period that profoundly shaped our territory.
