If Stelvio is the King, Cancano is surely the Princess. The road was part of the Imperial Via d'Alemagna traveled in the Middle Ages by caravans transporting wine to Central Europe in exchange for salt. It was later adapted for the construction of the Cancano dams.
It is a climb completely exposed to the sun, surrounded by dwarf pines whose scent is a remedy to forget the fatigue.
Once you reach the Fraele Towers, the view of the bends is truly suggestive.
In 2020 it was a stage finish of the Giro d'Italia. From the area of the Cancano Lakes, numerous trekking routes also start.
