Open all year round
The Maloja Pass, at an altitude of 1,815 meters, is a fascinating Swiss alpine pass that connects the Engadine to the Val Bregaglia and, thus, to Valchiavenna. Located in the canton of Graubünden, it links the towns of Chiavenna and St. Moritz along a route of great scenic appeal. The Bregaglia side offers a unique spectacle: an imposing rock face serves as a backdrop to a spectacular series of hairpin turns, a sought-after destination for motorcyclists and lovers of scenic driving. After crossing the border, the road gently ascends between the villages of Stampa and Bregaglia, up to Casaccia, from where the last stretch, steeper and rich in curves, leads to the pass. On the opposite side, the vast plateau of the Upper Engadine unfolds, with its famous lakes and open landscapes. Popular since Roman times as a trade route and a connection between northern and southern Europe, the Maloja has been a crossroads of peoples, stories, and cultures for centuries, which today captivates travelers and tourists with the beauty of its landscapes and its rich historical heritage.
