Valle dei Forni

Image

In the Stelvio National Park, nature reveals one of its most spectacular wonders: the Valle dei Forni, shaped over centuries by the Forni Glacier, the largest valley glacier in Italy and the second largest overall by surface.

Name origins
The name Forni comes from the historical presence of iron smelting furnaces, long gone today.

Glaciological trails and Tibetan bridges
Don’t miss the hiking trails leading to the glacier’s snout. Along the way, you’ll cross Tibetan bridges over powerful meltwater streams—a true alpine adventure!

Accessibility and opening period

  • Road access: open from March to November.

  • Winter access: the route is groomed, perfect for snowshoeing, crampon hiking, ski touring, and even fat biking.

Access fee
During summer, a daily ticket of €10 is required for vehicle access, payable at the entrance totem or at partner locations. Vehicles over 3.30 m in height are prohibited.

Public transport
Take advantage of the Forni Express, a daily shuttle from Santa Caterina Valfurva to the Forni area.

Winter equipment rule
Until May 30, winter tires and snow chains are mandatory.
