Civic Library of Sondalo

Opened in 1977 on S. Marta street in Sondalo, the library was initially managed by a group of volunteers. In the 1980s it was moved to a municipal building. Since 2019 the library has been relocated to the primary school building in Sondalo, where it has been possible, thanks to an expansion of the surface area, to renew the spaces and improve the arrangement of the collections. Now the library is a comfortable and welcoming place.

The services

The library manages a collection of over 18,000 documents. It includes a children's section for ages 0-14 (with subsections for different age groups), a young adult section, an adult fiction and non-fiction section, a small multimedia section, a local history collection of about 1,200 volumes, and a special historical collection consisting of approximately 700 books, published in the first half of the twentieth century, which form a collection of fiction managed by the Morelli Sanatorium for the use of staff during leisure time.

It is also possible to request books, CDs, and DVDs from other libraries in the provincial network and to receive information about the digital library MediaLibraryOnLine.

Activities The library participates in the Born to Read project, which promotes reading aloud in families for children from 0 to 6 years old. It also promotes reading for children and teenagers in collaboration with schools.

It also participates in Volunteers for Culture, a program to promote cultural volunteering in libraries and museums in the province of Sondrio.

The library is always closed on Sundays and on national holidays
