Curling
Bormio is one of the few Italian alpine resorts to have an indoor curling rink, the only field in Lombardy dedicated exclusively to this unique and fun sport. In addition to providing you with the basic knowledge and the necessary equipment, the Bormio Curling Group will help you take your first steps on the ice.
Between history and myth:
Curling was probably invented in Scotland in the 16th century, as evidenced by the discovery of a stone dated 1511 in an old pond in Dunblane. The sport still has a strong following in Canada, Switzerland, and the Nordic countries, and thanks to the latest editions of the Olympic Games, it has gained recognition in Italy for its uniqueness, and even though it is not yet very widespread, we recommend giving it a try: you will have a blast. Stones and brooms to reach the house Each team, consisting of four members, must throw heavy polished granite stones, called stones, towards the house, a series of concentric rings of different colors painted on the opposite side of the rink. The winner is the one who gets closest to the center of the house. To assist, while one team member throws the stone, the others use small brooms to smooth the ice to guide it, trying to regulate its speed and direction. To allow the stones to slide with the least possible friction, the ice is meticulously prepared and leveled.
