Curling
Bormio is one of the few Italian alpine resorts to have an indoor curling rink, the only facility in Lombardy exclusively designated for this unique and fun sport. In addition to providing you with the basic knowledge and the necessary equipment, the Curling Group of Bormio will help you take your first steps on the ice.
Between History and Myth
Curling was likely invented in Scotland in the 16th century, as evidenced by the finding of a stone dated 1511 in an old pond in Dunblane. The sport still has a strong following in Canada, Switzerland, and the Nordic countries, and thanks to the recent editions of the Olympic Games, it has also become known in Italy for its uniqueness, and although not yet widespread, we recommend a game: you will have a blast. Stones and brooms to reach the house Each team, made up of four members, must throw heavy polished granite stones, called stones, towards the house, a series of concentric rings of different colors painted on the opposite side of the rink. The winner is the one who gets closest to the center of the house. To assist, while one team member throws the stone, the others use small brooms to sweep the ice to guide it, trying to regulate its speed and direction. To allow the stones to slide with as little friction as possible, the ice is carefully prepared and leveled.
