Historical Museum Carlo Donegani

Image

The Historical Museum “Carlo Donegani” is located at 2,758 m, at the Stelvio Pass, and tells the story of the legendary Pass in all its aspects. Established at the counter of the Banca Popolare di Sondrio, the Museum aims to narrate the Stelvio from many points of view: from the Great War, to ski schools, mountaineering, glaciers, sports, and the Stelvio National Park.

In particular, there are three sections that compose it.

  • The blue section, The Great War, is made up of photographic and informational panels and an ample display case of historical artifacts. Near the entrance, there is a reproduction of a stone trench accompanied by various remains found on site (barbed wire, machine gun shield, sandbags, etc.).
  • The red section, The Events, reconstructs, through a series of images, the major events that have affected the Pass. Among these are summer skiing, the Giro d’Italia, and other important sports events, the glacial territory, the Park, and more.
  • The green section, The Road, aims to tell the story of the birth of the legendary road, from conception to construction. Opened in October 1825, the carriage road still represents an excellent and grand piece of civil engineering, the designer of which was engineer Carlo Donegani from Brescia (1775-1845), to whom the Museum is dedicated.
