Opened to the public in 1979, the Valfurva Municipal Library was initially housed in the municipal building in S. Antonio, which is now the location of the “Mario Testorelli” Valfurva Local Museum, and then from 1987 on the second floor of the S. Nicolò Service Center. Since 2005, it has been located in the school building of S. Antonio Valfurva, where it can make use of over 200 square meters of space and a conference room equipped with a LIM.
The library is Baby Pit Stop UNICEF-La Leche League and provides a nursing chair and a comfortable changing table.
The services
The library manages a collection of over 23,000 documents. It includes a children's section for ages 0-14 with a soft corner for children aged 0-5 years, a young adult section, an adult fiction and non-fiction section, a multimedia section with 1,900 items, and a local collection of 1,700 volumes. Through the Library, it is also possible to access the consultation of the book collection held by the Valfurva Local Museum (673 documents).
It is also possible to request books, CDs, and DVDs from other libraries in the provincial network and receive information about the digital library MediaLibraryOnLine. Internet browsing is allowed via Wi-Fi and two PCs available. The activities The library participates in the Nati per Leggere program, which promotes reading aloud in families for children aged 0 to 6 years. It promotes reading for children and teenagers also in collaboration with schools. Furthermore, it takes part in Volontari per la Cultura, a program to promote cultural volunteering in libraries and museums in the province of Sondrio.
The library is always closed on Sundays and on national holidays.
